Process technology is a part of a number of ship machinery and cargo handling systems. Examples are fuel processing, air cooling, oil and cargo heating or liquefied gas handling.

A large part of the developing field of Fuel Cell Technology (FC-Technology) is related to process techniques also. E.g. the safe application of non conventional fuels like methanol or hydrogen are process technical challenges.

For this reason the engineering and research activities at Germanischer Lloyd in both fields are concentrated in the Process-and Fuel Cell Technology group of the Strategic Research department.
